Aranofsky’s “Black Swan” Poster and Trailer

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

Check out the poster and trailer for Darren Aranofsky’s Black Swan.

I don’t know why, but this is the first I’m hearing of the film. Now I’m looking forward to it. I just hope it doesn’t go the direction of The Fountain

Diablo II is 10 Years Old!

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

Joystiq was kind enough to remind everyone that Diablo II came out on June 29, 2000. They also point out that the most recent patch came out in March. No that’s some longevity, eh?

I’d say the announcement made me feel old, but my admiration for Blizzard creating such a great (and still horribly addicting) game far outweighs any selfish feelings I might have.

What can I say…10 more years?

Disturbing Simpsons

Sunday, June 20th, 2010

I don’t really know how to describe Disturbing Simpsons with any other words than the adjective included in the title. Maybe it has something to do with a similarity in style to the early shorts on the Tracy Ullman show or perhaps I just enjoy disturbing things, but I really like Disturbing Simpsons a lot.

New Thundercats in 2011?

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

According to this article there’s a new Thundercats cartoon series coming in 2011. Unfortunately they also say that the new series “will have a decidedly anime flair.” I don’t know what to make of that, but here’s hoping…

Writer of Thundercats, Stephen Perry, Goes Missing, Insanity Ensues

Sunday, May 23rd, 2010

Just read this on io9.com and really can’t believe it:

Stephen Perry, a writer for such 1980s cartoons as ThunderCats and SilverHawks, went missing last week. Perry’s van was found last Sunday in Zephyrhills, Florida, and a man’s severed arm was found inside. Police detained Perry’s roommates this Friday.

Perry, 56, is best known for his work on Thundercats, Silverhawks, and the 1985 comic book series Time Spirits, which experienced a resurgence in media exposure last winter due to uncanny similarities it shared with James Cameron’s Avatar. According to Fox 13 Tampa Bay:

Just one day after Zephyrhills Police announced they were searching for three roommates who disappeared under mysterious circumstances, two of them are now in jail.
Detectives say they arrested Roxanne and James Davis on probation and drug charges respectively Friday night.
Saturday authorities say the two are now persons of interest in the disappearance of their roommate, Stephen Perry.
“I never even seen the people that live there,” explained neighbor Lynette Roberts.
Residents in the Zephyrhills neighborhood don’t seem to know anyone living in the home on 8th Street, but did see the police there this week. Investigators say the home where the three lived appeared to be ransacked.
But perhaps the most gruesome detail was what led investigators to go check on Perry in the first place.
Last Sunday, outside the Quality Inn on Bearrs Avenue, detectives opened up a van registered to Perry after a guest smelled something foul. What they found inside, they say, was a severed arm.
Police also found Perry’s home ransacked and further human remains in a dumpster near Perry’s home. Perry suffered from bladder cancer and had been living in a van with his son Leo, 5, until he received financial assistance from the Hero Initiative, a charity which helps comic creators in need. In March, Perry thanked the Hero Initiative for its efforts in a letter on its blog:

The Initiative gave me the breathing room to get some Medicaid and food stamps, and while we are always in danger of losing our home, electricity and belongings at any moment, I will always be grateful from the depths of my heart for the past six months of fairly solid home life I have had with my little boy.
In an interview with the St. Peterburg Times, Krystal Carroll, Perry’s ex-girlfriend and Leo’s mother, referred to Perry in the past tense. Leo is presently staying with his mother. Police are considering this case a possible homicide investigation.

A severed arm?
Bladder cancer?
Living in a van?
…with his 5-year old son?

Grand Opening: Caffeinated Toothpaste – an almost-daily diary strip

Sunday, April 4th, 2010

Here it is! Caffeinated Toothpaste is, as the post title suggests, an almost-daily diary strip. I’ve been drawing daily strip for almost a month now and have decided to put them online as sort of a webcomic. You can check out the daily strips as well as a healthy archive at caffeinatedtoothpaste.com. Enjoy!

How to something something

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

A few months ago Foster McAnonymous recommended the CBC’s “How to Think About Science” podcast. Unfortunately they have pulled all of the episodes from the iTunes feed, though the episodes can be streamed through the CBC’s page. Thanks to the miracles of…the Internet…the episodes are still available as downloads through a podcast portal page.

Enjoy.
