I recommend this Fresh Air Interview with Billy West, who does an alarming number of the voices in Futurama.

Interview

It is amazing how his voices changes during the interview.

Fucking Magnets, How do They Work?

Friday, June 4th, 2010

I can’t believe I didn’t post this earlier. Insane Clown Posse video for “Miracles”:

Miracles

The song is celebration of the common, everyday miracles, such as “fucking rainbows” and “fucking magnets”. Some might claim that rainbows and magnets are not, in fact, miracles. But ICP knows that scientists are just “liars who be getting me pissed”.

There is also an SNL parody on youtube, but I don’t think this needs a parody.

Further ICP reading: Juggalo, ICP.

Meetings

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

As a follow-up to Losure’s post:

Plot of LHC meetings as a function of time

There were 1200 meeting on CMS in the Month of March.

If each meeting is only 1 hour (a very conservative guess), then this corresponds to a month 16-hour days where there are 2.5 meetings going on all the time (no weekends).

Funny Papers

I have been reading the Bill Watterson biography since Christmas. It’s fantastic, I recommend it. One aspect of the book that I enjoyed was the context it provided for “Calvin & Hobbes”. I read the Sunday comics when I was home and they’re really awful. The comics in that section have often been running for ~50 years. When the creator dies, their family members often take up the strip. This has led to stagnation, and that stagnation makes Calvin and Hobbes stand out even more. The stagnation has also driven me away from the comics page and into the realm of web comics. One of my favorite comics has a collection of links to syndicated comic parodies:

Phantom Menace Review

I can’t believe I watched this whole review. It’s 70 minutes of mocking the first Star Wars Prequel. I know it’s cliche to rant about Star Wars on the interweb, but this was insightful enough to be worth posting. It even includes comparisons to the original trilogy that highlight why we should have expected more from the prequel.

H.R. Geiger Museum

Saturday, April 18th, 2009

I went to the Geiger Museum and the Geiger Bar yesterday. It was awesome. (Geiger is the artist who designed the Alien and sets for the movie Alien LINK). The museum has many of the original canvases in full size, plus some furniture, models, etc. It’s incredible. The Geiger bar is small, but done completely in Geiger style, including a vaulted ceiling lined with rib cages.
