Jason Becker is surpisingly active these days, considering he should have died over a decade ago. Turns out he is working on new material. Suprisingly, he can actually smile a little bit, as well as move his eyes, which is actually positive progress. The videos are variously “inspirational” news pieces and sick guitar playing.

Sunday, July 30th, 2006Ye Olde Obituaries
Sunday, July 30th, 2006“Thursday, May 12, 1887 — A terrible accident occurred in the rolling mill of the Hubbard Iron company, at Hubbard,, Ohio, shortly after 2 o’clock on the morning of the 6th. Engineer Griffith Phillipps, aged 29 years in passing around the ore crusher oiling the bearings, was caught in the wheels and dragged into the crusher. He was mangled out of all semblance of humanity, the flesh adhering to the clogs. He leaves a wife and 3 children.
Thursday, May 19, 1887 –George Smith’s two year old child at William’s, Bay county, died last week in great agony after eating heartly of canned peaches.”
Yep, obituaries were a lot more interesting in the 19th century.
Animated Storyboards from The Simpsons movie
Thursday, July 27th, 2006Like the title says, animated storyboards from the upcoming Simpsons movie.
Hrm, a crowd outside the house calling for blood, that doesn’t sound like it has been done in an episode before.
Still, refreshing to watch.
I got leaving on my mind
Wednesday, July 26th, 2006With much thought and consideration (meaning, little or none), I have decided to pick up and move to Berlin. The absence of funding for doctoral programs left me a few possibilities including substitute teaching, community college professorship, and professional sandwich maker.
Germany, on the other hand, means a better chance to learn German and likely working some shittier job. Either way, I fly into Berlin in just over two weeks and will remain there for at least six months. If I can find a job then I will extend my visit for a full year.
The romanticism of my excursion has been undercut by the fact that I have already found an apartment. If I were Chuck(!) I could move to Berlin and be homeless.
TMNT Trailer
Saturday, July 22nd, 2006Losure’s rumor mill was not wrong. Here is the trailer for the new TMNT movie! All CG and, from what I can tell, closer to the visual style of the comic. Enjoy the pseudo-”Flight of the bumblebee” turtle action, cause I certainly did.
They do look a little bit like frogs though.
Hellgalina
Thursday, July 20th, 2006Is anyone else bothered by the fact that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are going to suffer in hell for all enternity for commiting a horrible horrible sin and conceiving a child out of wedlock? It troubles me. They seem like such a cute couple that I simply don’t want to picture their ethereal souls shrieking the breathless scream of an everlasting pain, but yet, I find myself compelled by the image. Strange.
Valve’s Portal
Thursday, July 20th, 2006Oh my shit, trailer for Valve’s “Portal”. Harkens back to block-moving games of yesteryear? Not quite.
Stanford Prison Experiment: 1971
Sunday, July 16th, 2006It’s long, the quality is bad, but you can watch the record of the 1971 Stanford Prison experiment. Definitely worth the watch.
New Metallica Records
Wednesday, July 12th, 2006Metallica have set a new record for audience attendance with 78,000, eclipsing Michael Jackson’s previous 1997 record.
Also, their new album will come out in either fall or summer 2007, it seems. Curious, but not necessarily anxious. Oddly, they have already played one new song in concert; it clocked in at a little over 10 minutes.
Shell Shocked

A friend sent this to me and I don’t know any details except that it has to do with the new all-CG TMNT movie that’s in production right now. And holy shit I think it looks amazing – very much like the old Eastman/Laird comics. If they can just get the story right I think I might poo my pants.
