Sadder Kermit

Friday, March 30th, 2007

Ever-lurking lurky-lurk lurker Michael enjoyed Sad Kermit’s cover of “Hurt” enough that he discovered www.sadkermit.com where one can also hear Sad Kermit covers such songs as “Something I Can Never Have,” “Creep,” “Rainbow Disconnection,” and “Twilight.” Technically this could maybe have been a comment… but it’s kinda funny enough for a post, I figure.

Bloons

Friday, March 30th, 2007

Bloons is an amusing and mildly addicting flash game where you are faced with the task (as a monkey) of destroying as many balloons as possible using a dark. Part Pocket Tanks, Bloons employs some basic physics and is a deeply satisfying diversion. Just another great find from jay is games.

Metalheads

Thursday, March 22nd, 2007

Nic Fleming, science correspondent for “The Telegraph, claims that “Intelligent teenagers often listen to heavy metal music to cope with the pressures associated with being talented, according to research.” The article can be summed up rather concisely: “Researchers found that, far from being a sign of delinquency and poor academic ability, many adolescent “metalheads” are extremely bright and often use the music to help them deal with the stresses and strains of being gifted social outsiders.”

I was disappointed by the lack of a graph or chart showing the relation between intelligence and scraggly long (facial) hair.

The question is, how many metal heads do you know?

This American…

Thursday, March 22nd, 2007

This should really be posted under the “Jay/Shaun/Losure, et al. was right” category, but that is a bit unwieldy. In this case, Jay’s prior praise of This American Life (the radio show; I can’t speak for the new TV series) was completely and utterly dead on. I can’t remember the last time I enjoyed a listening experience so much. Cape Cod Mysteries was amazing when it was on, though the element of reality of American Life really makes it a better show overall. I’m so impressed by the production quality, presentation, and allure of the whole show, so much so that I regret not having listed for the past x number of years. I did check out the Ware-animated segment of the new ShoTime series but I didn’t think the animation really added to the store despite my overall affinity for Ware’s work. So it goes.

Yes, it’s juvenile. Yes, there are dick jokes. Don’t overlook the popshots at women though. Enjoy “Unintentionally Funny Comic Book Panels.”
