What Really Happened to Doodlesheep

Saturday, June 30th, 2007

I’m pleased to present to you the true story of “What Really Happened to Doodlesheep” in comic form. It is my hope that you can rest easy now that the truth is exposed and a new chapter of our lives can begin. The comic was made a few weeks after the now-legendary 24-hour comic, but was scanned, edited, and uploaded only a few short minutes ago.

creepiest dating advice

Friday, June 29th, 2007

The following article gives advice on how to pray (yes, i said pray) to find a girlfriend/boyfriend. The best paragraph is:

“Of course, you have to be careful what you ask for, Goldman notes. ‘It is important when praying for a relationship not to be so specific that you actually have a particular person in mind,” he counsels. “Praying is so powerful that you might actually end up with that person—and it could very well be the wrong person for you. I know a case where a guy prayed fervently that he could marry a particular woman. They got married and then divorced only a few weeks later.’”

horses dont do drugs

Friday, June 29th, 2007

In case any of you do not check Kate’s blog every five minutes like me, she had a post directing to a real anti-drug horse book. Hard to explain, check out the link, it has the entire book.

Tiny picture

Monday, June 25th, 2007

Updates have been a bit slow as is the trend in these summerly months so I’ll go ahead and be a whore…for myself.

The above picture is the 4x6cm. result of my homemade 1-bristle brush and some india ink. It’s not impressive by any means (or comparable to other recently-posted animations)but the process was fun and grueling (about 45 minutes). Click on the above picture to see it a larger version as well or just check out the rest of my gallery.

Egg to Chick in 20 pictures

Monday, June 25th, 2007

Here’s a series of pictures that show egg-to-chick development (very scientific, I know) in 20 pictures. I liked it though some who are offended by nature might not want to look at this while they eat their egg-based breakfasts.

animation – Pietro’s Kitchen

Sunday, June 24th, 2007

The *almost* final version of Pietro’s Kitchen is now ready for viewing. It’s posted on one of hte other team member’s web sites HERE Make sure you’ve got sound on because we finally have some decent sound/music wiht it.

I say almost because there are still a couple of little glitches (single bad frames that you may or not notice), and because another friend is going to be makign all the final versions wihtout the black border all the way around, etc. There’s talk of giving it some other visual upgrades, but it probably won’t happen (and if it does, i won’t be a part of it).

(note, from josh): I changed the initial title of the post to accommodate comment authorization. It was originally “Pietro’s Kitchen.”

We Don’t Get It

Sunday, June 24th, 2007

A very good article in the New Yorker concerning the study of an amazonian tribe who have confounded anthropologists and linguists for years, and which examines the ramifications of this in the linguistic world. The tribe has no color words, number system, perfect tense, origin myths, or recursive grammar structure; nor can they (or will they) learn them in other languages. They don’t in particular care to learn anything apart from their culture, and their language–which can apparently function without syllables and be “sung”–has completely baffled people for years. One linguist/missionary interviewed has studied/lived with them for 25 years and can’t yet communicate.

The article is very long, though, and may not be as interesting to people without some knowledge of basic linguistic theory–universal grammar in particular. I rather wish, too, that one could listen to them speak, but alas, no. Still, it’s fascinating, and the description of the villagers watching the King Kong remake is pretty hilarious.

Robot Chicken does Star Wars

Friday, June 22nd, 2007

Robot Chicken does Star Wars. Pretty good though the episode drops off towards the end. Definitely a few really good segments. It’s also worth noting that the episode was made with Lucas’ blessing.

nine eleven animation

Thursday, June 21st, 2007

Some people at Purdue University spent two and half years studying and making an animated movie about the physics behind the 9/11 attacks (which had already been studied by a government group). The movie is slightly ridiculous, i think, because most of what it shows it pretty much intuitive plus the fact that it got 2,000 hits in the first hour on you tube. The group that made the movie made some recommendations like “better fire proofing”. I am going to make a recommendation: get the Gargoyles (Goliath, Bronx, Brooklyn, etc) to perch on top of buildings and swoop down and hit planes that try to hit buildings, granted this would only work at night.

Blade Runner – Five-Disc edition

Monday, June 18th, 2007

The Blade Runner five-disc edition is making me salivate. The set includes a total of four cuts of the film: the final cut, the ’82 U.S. theatrical cut, the ’82 international cut, and the ’92 director’s cut. If it’s under $125 I would buy it for sure. Check out the site for a list of the other features.
