Here’s another piece from this past week entitled “The Dingle did not age gracefully.” Pen, brush, and ink. Super.

The Professor Brothers – “Late Date”

That was some hilarity from Brad Neely of creased comics. There are 26 other videos on the site, some better than others.

Eastern Reviews

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

I dunno, I liked Eastern Promises but did not love it. Godfather comparisons are misleading since it has, I think, more of a personal feel than an epic one, not that that’s bad. Viggo did do a fantastic job though, I’ll give him that. Some props to Cassel as well; Watt’s character was ok but didn’t exactly give her a Mulholland-drive sort of showcasing (granted few would). It did a good job of making me not expect the twist, but the twist itself I thought was underwhelming. Interestingly, it’s the most homoerotic movie I’ve seen since I taped Josh in the shower, even without Viggo’s dick. I dunno, I kind of feel like I might be missing something, though. And I should point out that I’ve never really been moved by a Cronenberg movie either; I almost inevitably find them cool or interesting or original but they don’t ever touch me emotionally (oddly this happens with Scorcese movies as well) inclusive of …Violence. I kinda want to rewatch it and see if I missed something. I give a thumbs up on the whole, though. Fellow theatergoer and dedicated Viggo devotee Iliana has promised me she will also add her opinions, and I’m really quite curious to see what others thought of it.

Hotel Chevalier

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

You can watch Hotel Chevalier, Wes Anderson’s short related to the upcoming release of The Darjeeling Limited on iTunes. I haven’t seen the feature film yet, though Hotel Chevalier definitely stands on its own as a short film. Lots of Wes Anderson signature shots and themes. Go watch.

Star Wars: A New Parody

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

Ayuh, Family Guy‘s season premiere is an hour long (-commercials 40 min) Star Wars parody. Actually, I say that in a good way; it’s pretty amusing, and roughly on par with the Robot Chicken one (my opinion; that episode is explicitly discussed at the end of this). Anyhow, click on the ship to download.

TF2

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

I don’t know how many of you played TFC (Team Fortress Classic), but the day all TFC fans have been waiting for is nearly here. On October 10 Team Fortress 2 will be up and running. They completely redesigned the game from the original and I can’t wait to play it. You can play the beta if you pre-order it, which I did, and it looks awesome. They spent a lot of time contemplating every aspect of the game. Also check out Portal while you’re there, that game just looks crazy.

30 Years of Stupid Monsters

Monday, September 24th, 2007

Somebody went through all the D&D bestiary books and wrote up an article on the stupidest of the monsters. Some of them I knew about (Gelatinous Cube, Owlbear), others I didn’t (Asswere, The Flail Snail, two different kinds of evil squirrels). Here’s a quick example of what you’re in for.

Clowes does the Times

Monday, September 24th, 2007

Daniel Clowes has been doing the NYTimes Funny Pages for the past two weeks with his serialized “Mister Wonderful.” So far it’s enjoyable and it doesn’t feel too far away from some of his more unfettered works, despite the obvious parallel with a tiny part of Ghost World.

Don’t miss “The Visual Language of Graphic Novels” Interactive Feature either.
