1. Got an awesome monitor at work. I’m probably behind the times here, but it’s my first time on a widescreen at all. Suspect I’m going to have to get one for myself soon enough; the added workspace is great and I wanna watch movies on it so, so badly.

Photoshop express offered as free online app

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

Adobe now offers photoshop express online for free as a “rich web application”. To me, that means they have a gmail/facebook version of photoshop. You can have 2 GB to store and manipulate your photos. It looks like the functionality has been simplified. I never want to do anything fancy anyway, but others might find it crippling. I didn’t check how well the program can export to different image formats. That can be a key feature. And I don’t know if that have that awesome “magnetic selection” tool that grabs the borders of objects in the image. That shit was cool.

In general, I like these “web 2.0″ applications. I don’t mind the software not being on my computer. As long as it’s smooth across a variety of internet connections. I don’t go crazy with all the google docs stuff yet (they don’t have a good power point/impress clone), but I would consider it after some improvements.

Days gone by Art Spectacular

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

I’ve been pretty bogged down with work as of late and haven’t had time to do much personal drawing. However, I did manage to get a small commission from a student of mine. His request was simple: he wanted a drawing of him and his girlfriend along with their pets. Unfortunately I was given four days to complete this (and only had one afternoon do actually do everything) so I churned out a rather simple portrait but I’m happy with it considering the time I had. I’m even happier considering that it looks pretty much like both of them and the pets.

The other picture, which is titled “Picture of the Century” was something I did a few months ago right around the time I was bedridden with pneumonia (the first time). It’s little more than a doodle but still makes me smile.

I’ll leave you to figure out which is the commissioned portrait and which is “Picture of the Century.”

Blizzard finally got around to posting video and gameplay caps from that third race in starcraft. It wasn’t the humans, and it wasn’t the grey guys. It was that other race. The lizard one. Yeah, whatever.

EDIT: Mutons. Got it.

Mr. Scraps – The Final Post

Monday, March 24th, 2008

It’s been a few months since any word of the 2007 24-hour Comics day a.k.a. Mr. Scraps but I assure you things have been happening. For the second year in a row my work has been included in the Renate Comics compilation book. There are fewer entries this year but Jens did a wonderful and loving job combining and composing the entries into a handsome volume. People in the area can purchase a fine copy at the aforementioned Renate Comics. People outside of Berlin are left out in the rain (as they well deserve). Click the thumbnail for a scan of the front and back cover. Thanks again to Jens for compiling everything and shipping out the books.

Human Giant: Season 2

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

Human Giant: Season 2 has started and the season pass is now up on iTunes for $7.99. The first two episodes of the new season are fucking hilarious and you are really missing something wonderful if you haven’t checked out the show before. Season 1 was amazing and was absolutely floored but how much better the first two episodes of the second season were.

C’mon, do it, that’s only like €5.

Thanks to Nicholas for the heads up.

Kevin Connolly, born with no legs, has made a hobby of traveling the world taking photos of people staring at him as he skateboards. His website has a pretty cool gallery that reminds me somewhat of Josh’s photoblogs. Except the photos are typically lower to the ground.

Video Challenge Part Deux

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

They’ve struck gold with pop-rock, but can the the dynamic duo of Simpson & Losure do it with death metal? Deicide have announced a contest wherein fans make their own videos for “‘Til Death Do Us Part”; they post them on youtube, and the one with the most views wins. As a marketing gimmick, I suspect it could be more effective than MCS’s, especially since Deicide probably won’t have MTV backing… I rather wish it was a band vote again, though. This way kind of makes it seem that no one in the band really wanted to be bothered.

My vote is to use the same props, have the guy doll rape the girl doll with a frying pan, leave her on the carnival ride’s tracks to die, then put her in the blender and drink her. Instant win.
