Untitled Saturday Art Spectacular

Saturday, August 23rd, 2008

Click on the thumbnail for a larger version of my latest untitled painting (36 x 48cm, acrylic & collage on wood).

Sorry for the lack of updates. The summer camps went well and were just as tiring as last year despite only having done two weeks (instead of four). I’ve switched my work around a bit as of late and am mostly doing private English lessons with a few business-English lessons. Stephanie and I had ourselves a long weekend in Prague last week, which was great despite the weather. We were able to catch up with Radek, who some of you may remember from senior year at Union. It was great chilling with him again and brought back lots of fond memories, like sleep deprivation, drinking in various academic buildings, and of Union in general. Not so much else to speak of. I have been selling some art prints, with minor success. There are currently three shops in Berlin carrying my stuff, which I’ll hopefully grab pictures of in the next week and post.

That’s about it. I’ve been trying to keep up the painting & drawing, so most of my time has been going to that.

Kinetic Typography

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

I’ve seen this a few times here and there, but Youtube seems to have a rather large collection of them, mostly scenes from movies. There’s a few good ones, but this link goes to one from V for Vendetta, which I think was just fun to watch.

Album

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

Metallica’s been posting some bits of their album online. Right now on their myspace you can hear “Cyanide” played live, and one just released, “The Day that Never Comes”. They’re both actually quite good. I’ve been listening to heavier and heavier and faster and faster music over the years that’s left Metallica in the dust in that sense, so this is a interesting reminder of what one’s left with after that: just solid f-ing songs (save St. Anger).

Cooking 101

Do not stir pasta with a plastic fork. Doesn’t work.

Shatner’s still at it

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

Apparently William Shatner is still making music. I heard this song on the radio the other day and was surprised when I realized that it was not only Shatner, but a decent song. It helps that he has a real band to back him up, but it was still surprising. And it seems that Ben Folds had a hand in making the CD as well, which it also pretty sweet.

Sandvich!

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

So Valve just released the next big update for TF2 which included new achievements and weapons for the Heavy. One of the new weapons was previewed in the Meet the Scout video, the Sandvich. And to properly introduce this weapon, they went ahead and made it it’s own video, which it also full of awesomeness. So without further ado, Meet the Sandvich.

New Comic and more

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

Click on the intro to read the rest of “BRAGGHRRAHHEEEEOHHERRRRRURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!” A nice pretty color version exists but I’ve decided to upload the black and white version for, uh, posterity. The whole thing is a submission for a Finnish comic magazine.

So, I’ve been teaching at English Language Camp for the past two weeks and I’m immensely proud to see the blog carry on its fine tradition of the latest social, political, and cultural gossip (as well as a plethora of other fancy tidbits). I’ll resume posting in a few days, once I stop having flashbacks of small German children telling me that everything is unfair.

I’ll leave this post with the note that I just got a 16GB iPod Touch. I’ve never had a gadget for such a short time before it’s become indispensable. Sure, I could go into the whole spiel about how I think it’s a much wise purchase than an iPhone, but I won’t. More to come in the next few days.

Aside from that not too much else is new. Oh yeah, this week (or sometime around now) marks two years in Germany.

PETA Bus

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

Haven’t done an anti-PETA post for a while, so here’s PETA’s blog talking about how they wanted to run an ad in a paper comparing the greyhound bus beheading in Canada to slaughterhouses. The newspaper declined to run it, but PETA still have it posted. And just cuz I’m in that mood, here‘s the episode of Penn & Teller’s Bullshit where they take down PETA.

Robocop Follow-up

Saturday, August 2nd, 2008

I’ve discovered another webcomic that has, in the course of 24 hours, proven itself very worthwhile. This morning I began reading some of the archives of Hijinks Ensue. The comic content is similar to Penny Arcade, but it is usually less obscure. I had a originally found a post about a new Tron movie which was kinda “meh”. The site got me hooked when I found some excellent comics about seeing Dethklok live. Now I’m double-hooked, since they made the a comic about Requiem for a Robocop
