Apparently Sam Raimi of Spiderman and Evil Dead fame is going to be directing the Warcraft movie after he finishes Spiderman 4. I imagine it’ll still suck, but it’s better than Uwe Boll.

Friday, July 17th, 2009Variety is currently reporting that when Futurama returns it will be with new voice actors. Fox is claiming that they couldn’t come to an agreement with the actors and have put out a casting call. I can see this being maybe OK for a couple actors, but for, like Billy West, John Dimaggio and Tress Macneil I don’t know how that would possibly work; maybe they only mean certain voices? Katy Segal does only one, Lauren Tom does two. With luck it is just a negotiation tactic, though.

Thursday, July 9th, 2009But Coors has decided to help you put your shotgun woes behind you. Apparently they decided that too much of their incredibly amazing * cough cough* beer was being wasted from failed shotgunning, so they’re adding another tab to the side of the can for your convenience. I think the beer industries are trying to take all the ingenuity out of college drinking. I mean, it started with beer bongs at Spencers, and now places even sell beer pong kits. What’s next, something to hold you up for keg-stands?
Middlesex
Wednesday, July 8th, 2009Apparently Middlesex is going to be a TV show now. I personally thought the book was overrated (the article’s description as “considered by many to be one of the best novels of the last half-century” is a good example), but I suppose it could turn out well, and I am certainly a fan of increased visibility for trans/intergenders.
Longtime listener, first time caller.
Tuesday, July 7th, 2009Good evening darw1n.net.
Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the first annual darw1n.net teutonic symposium and saw the darw1n folks in action. An old friend of darw1n himself (at least in Berlin-years), it was my first chance meeting with balance of the .net scribes. Let me assure you, they are 1/1 awsm. There was no doubt I needed to hop on board this train.
American Polymath is a new cultural journal that just launched this morning. Started by a graduate school colleague of mine, Clayton Trutor of Burlington Vermont, the journal ‘aims to be an online venue for thoughtful discourse on the cultural and intellectual life of the Republic.’ I have been tapped to be a contributor to the journal, this month in the form of the ‘Your Favorites’ section where I muse on my favorite Tom Petty song. The interview by Mr. Trutor with infamous baseball legend Jim Bouton is a must read. Enjoy and thanks for having me, darw1ners.
